Layton wins Srixon International state qualifier

Glenelg's Ben Layton

Glenelg’s Ben Layton has taken out the state qualifier for the Srixon International junior event played at North Adelaide Golf Club on Wednesday.

The event, open to boys and girls aged 17 years or under on the day of competition, proved once again to be a popular event with 59 junior golfers taking part.

Layton took out the Boys 15-17 years event on the fourth playoff hole over the Grange’s, Liam Georgiadis, with both players posting 1-over rounds of 72 before Layton sunk a short par putt (in near darkness) on the 2nd hole at North Adelaide (4th playoff hole) to claim the title.

Ella Adams from The Grange Golf Club was the winner of the 15-17 years Girls event with a 3-over round of 76. Jin-Young Yun from The Grange was runner up with a 4-over round of 77.

Both players will now represent SA in the Srixon International Junior Classic National Final at the Cypress Lakes Golf Club in NSW from 3-7 Oct 2016.

14/u Girls Winner, Caitlin Peirce from The Vines of Reynella 79 and 14/u Boys Winner Andrew Fiebig (South Lakes GC) 70 will also travel to NSW as representatives to compete in the national final.
