Glenelg’s contingent of players have commenced strongly in the first round of the Golf SA Classic being played at Royal Adelaide Golf Club this week.
2015 SA Medallist, Sam Earl, posted a solid 1-under par 71 to be in a tie for 6th place, three shots back from the leading group of four players at 4-under par.
One shot further back in a tie for 11th place are Glenelg juniors, 16-year old Lachlan Barker, the 2015 Golf SA Amateur Champion, and 13-year old Jack Buchanan, who despite his young age and small stature, impressively negotiated the long Royal Adelaide layout carding two birdies and two bogies for his even-par round of 71.
Other Glenelg members to feature in the top 60 through round one included Sam Burton, who fired a 3-over par 75 to be in a tie for 32nd place, and juniors Jackson Kalz, Jacob Rillotta and Ben Layton, who all carded rounds of 76 (4-over).
Ben Ferguson (WA), Chris Park (QLD), Harrison Endycott (NSW) and South Australian Will Somerfield hold the lead after all posting rounds of 68 to sit 4-under the card.
In the Rene Erichsen Salver, Glenelg’s Elysia Yap sits in a tie for 4th position as the leading South Australian, following a 1-over par 74 to be three shots behind leader, Robyn Choi.
