Jill Hodge has taken out the 2015 Women’s Open Championship with a comprehensive 4/3 victory over Sophie James in the 18 hole final played on Sunday.
Jill, a 6-time Women’s Club Champion, played solid golf to take out her first Open title since the event was introduced in 2013, replacing the Women’s Saturday Championship. Jill was previously runner up to her daughter, Josie, in the inaugural 2013 event after collecting the final Women’s Saturday Championship trophy in 2012.
The 18 hole final was close for much of the day with the match all tied up through 9 holes. However, Jill extended her lead by 1 hole after the par 3, 11th, and from there, she started to run away from Sophie to eventually claim the victory on the 15th hole.
