Glenelg’s Sam Earl has taken out the 2015 SA Medal with an even-par total of 143 (71, 72), defeating Flagstaff Hill’s Scott Ready in a playoff.
Earl, who is also a member of The Vines of Reynella Golf Club, had four birdies and four bogeys in his even-par 72 today around The Grange’s East Course. Along with claiming the SA Medal, Earl takes out first qualifying position for the SA Amateur Championships, commencing on Thursday morning at Kooyonga Golf Club. Earl will take on two-time SA Amateur champion Phil Chapman in the round of 32 hitting off the 1st tee at 7:49am.
Youngster Jackson Kalz continued his recent impressive form, firing another 3-over par round of 75 to qualify in 7th place – an outstanding effort by the 15 year old. Kalz will take on 13th Beach’s Sam Marles.
Other Glenelg members to make the top 32 include Colin Coleman (14th – 76, 76, 152), joint first round leader Lachlan Barker (18th – 71, 81, 152), Josh Hayes (24th – 76, 78, 154), Connor Chant (30th – 78, 79, 157) and left-handed sensation Ben Layton (31st – 76, 81, 157), both of whom scraped through in a playoff for the final four positions.
The SA Amateur matchplay kicks off at Kooyonga Golf Club on Thursday morning from 7:00am.
