Glenelg’s A1 Women fielded a very different looking team in week two with Jenny Lee in Ireland competing in the British Women’s Amateur and Jill Hodge unwell with pneumonia! However, they did prevail to beat Golf SA 3.5 to 1.5.
Jess Burns at number five made her A1 debut. After a nervous start, which saw her 3 down after three, Jess steadied and was back to square after 14 holes. She teed off the 18th 1-down but a wonderful closing win ensured a halved match. A commendable start to her A1 career.
Sarah Crocker (nee Griffiths), at number four made a very successful return in her first match this season. She was 1 up after three, six and nine holes then stormed home to win her match 5/4 and maintain her unbeaten A1 record. Awesome!
Josie Hodge, at number three, started slowly and was square after three and six holes and 1 down after nine. The match continued in the same vain all day with Josie just being pipped on 18 to finish 1 down – disappointing.
Sophie James, at number two also had a close match being 1 up after three, six, nine and 13 holes and back to square after 14. She then managed great wins on 15 and 16 and closed out her match 2/1 with a half on 17. Well done Sophie
Elysia Yap, at number 1 for the first time was still in the ZONE after her Club Championship win last week. She was 3 up after nine and wound everything up on the 13th to finish 6 and 5 – fantastic win.
