By Glenelg Junior member, Jack Buchanan (aged 12)
I travelled with my brother and family on 28th September to compete in the Srixon International Sub-Junior Classic held at Kurri Kurri Golf Club near Sydney.
I was able to play a practice round on the Monday with Aaron, Liam and another boy from The Grange and was happy to play well and shoot 79. It gave me a great chance to get a feel of the golf course before the completion started the next day.
On the first day Tuesday 1st October, I shot a 79 (nett 68). In the second round I played well again and shot 81 (nett 70) which put me in a great position for the last 2 days. Day 3 started well and although again I shot 81 (nett 70) I missed a couple of putts at the 18th which would have helped my position for the last day.
On the final round I started in tied 2nd place, only 7 shots off the lead. I was feeling confident with my game and I was happy to score 81 again, but a little luck on my side would have been great. I finished in 4th position in my age group (under 12) gross and tied 25th in the overall championship. I received a nice trophy for 2nd place in the nett event, shooting 10 shots under my handicap overall.
I had a great time playing with my brother, the other boys from Glenelg and especially the experience of playing and meeting boys of my own age from other parts of Australia. I would like to thank Glenelg Golf Club Foundation and everyone involved in the junior program at Glenelg for all their support and giving me the opportunity to travel interstate.
