Kennewell & Wheare win 2014 Junior Championships

Liam Kennewell has continued his strong run in the 2014 Boys’ Junior Club Championship, defeating Jackson Kalz 4/3, in yesterday’s final.

After coming through the 36-hole qualifying in top spot, Kennewell then came through a tight semi-final, defeating Jack Buchanan on the 18th. Jackson Kalz had a slightly easier route to the final, playing some solid golf to defeat Jack Hynes 4/3.

The future is certainly bright for Glenelg Golf Club, with Jack Buchanan aged 12, Kennewell aged 13 and Kalz aged 14.

In the Handicap Matchplay event, Austin Baker defeated Jacob Rillotta 4/3 in the first semi, while Mitch Ward defeated Aaron Buchanan 3/1 to make the final. Mitch Ward overcame Austin Baker 4/2 in the final to take out the Boys’ Junior Club Handicap Matchplay Trophy.

Matilda Wheare had a comfortable victory in the Girls’ Junior Club Championship, after rounds of 85, 46 (131) in the 27 hole event. Hyoyi Pyun finished Runner-up after rounds of 99. 54 (153).

In the Anne Smerdon Invitational, open to girls from all clubs, Emma Sutton from The Grange Golf Club came home with 44 in the afternoon to defeat Matilda Wheare by two shots, after the pair were tied following rounds of 85 in the morning.
