Jenny Lee has added yet another trophy to the cabinet, winning her first Glenelg Women’s Club Championship, after defeating close friend Elysia Yap in today’s 36-hole final.
In constant, icy rain, Lee got off to a hot start to be 2up through the first nine. Elysia Yap pegged back the margin to be all square at lunch, setting up a tight afternoon tussle.
Lee again got out of the blocks to take an early lead and this time was able to capitalise on the margin, winning the 11th, 12th and 14th holes to close out the match 5/4.
While the win would have been bittersweet having to defeat her close friend in the final, the match was played in great spirit in the horrible conditions.
In the B Grade Championship final, Barb Deed had a comfortable win over Janet Fleer, 9/7. Gleny Bartlett defeated Carmel Fairweather 6/5, in the C Grade Championship Final, while Liz Jamieson won 4/2 over Julienne Scanlan in the C Grade Plate final.
