There will be some exciting projects set to commence on the course over the coming weeks that will further enhance the golfing experience for members and guests.
These projects are part of the overall Course Enhancement Plan, which aims to continually review and improve our wonderful golf course while preserving its distinctive character, and improve maintenance efficiency where possible.
The staging of these projects aims to minimise disruption to the golfing program and manage workload for course staff.
8th Greenside Bunker Refurbishment
Work commencing 30th June
Refurbishment of the 8th greenside bunker will be carried out to replace worn revetting and reconfigure the bunker to:
- Reduce sand area
- Improve access
- Create two bunkers less prone to wind erosion
- One smaller front bunker
- One large rear bunker
- Preserve striking appearance from fairway
New Practice Putting Green
Work commencing 2nd July
Time frame: 12-14 weeks
With the increased use of the practice facilities in recent years, and to support the excellent programs being developed by our Golf Operations team, there is now a need to create a new separate practice putting green.
Taking advantage of some unutilised land to the south west of the existing chipping green, the new green will allow uninterrupted access to a practice putting area for members and guests at the same time as clinics are being conducted effectively, or when areas need to be taken out of play for maintenance or recovery.
This work will also greatly enhance the visual appeal of this area, and forms the first stage of enhancements to the entire short game practice facility.
Refurbished Practice Green Bunkering
Work commencing 7th July
The existing bunkers are heavily utilised and are now in need of complete refurbishment. In consultation with Golf Operations staff and our Course Architect Neil Crafter, the existing large bunker will be replaced with two repositioned bunkers that will direct play away from the putting green and first tee area.
These bunkers will have greatly improved access, and their positioning will be mindful of future expansion of the existing green.
This work will also see the removal of the smaller practice bunker to increase the usable turf area available for pitching and chipping practice.
11th Tee Redevelopment
Work commencing 21st July
Time frame: 4-6 weeks
This will be an extensive area of work that will greatly improve a very tired area of the course. The work will result in:
- Slight realignment of the tees to the right
- New turf surfaces
- New irrigation system providing greater control of water which will assist effective landscaping of the area
- Removal of brick building, fence and unsightly bushes at rear of tee
- Creation of screen mounding to block views of housing and accommodate landscape planting
- Creation of a new path to accommodate cart access for the entire length of the tee complex
- Narrow pedestrian only access to front tee
- Landscape planting to enhance entire area
Due to the disruption of the entire tee complex for an extended period (4-6 weeks), a high quality synthetic tee pad (same as the new driving range surface) will be temporarily installed at the very front of the existing tee to allow the 11th hole to be played as a par 3 of approximately 125m.
All projects form part of the the Club’s ongoing Course Enhancement Plan budget and are fully funded through the course maintenance program and capital expenditure schedule.
All proposed dates may be subject to change due to weather conditions or any unforseen issues that arise during the work.
