With the cooler weather now with us, course staff have begun the process of refurbishing selected bunkers across the golf course, starting with the 15th fairway.
The large bunker on the right side of the fairway has been divided into two and reduced in total area, with additional fairway area being created. Another prime objective of this work is to raise the bunker base further above the water table to reduce the likelihood of flooding, with an additional 200mm of sand being added to the base. Revetting is also being replaced as part of this work.
The work is consistent with other work we have undertaken in recent years in consultation with our Course Architect, Neil Crafter, as part of the Club’s ongoing Course Enhancement Plan. Our aim with this work is to reduce maintenance demands while improving playability and access, and without compromising course aesthetics or strategy.
Further bunker restorations are planned throughout winter and will be posted on the website as they commence.
