The inaugural Tuohy Trophy, a family foursomes championship event, was a great success with 16 pairings fighting it out for the Club’s newest trophy event today.
The event, named after the Tuohy family who are synonomous with Glenelg Golf Club, ended up being tightly contested with only 1/8th of a shot separating first and second place. The inaugural winners of the Tuohy Trophy, with a net 72.5 in the Canadian Foursomes format, were Paul & Henry Duregon. They pipped the pairing of Chris & Sophie James by the smallest of margins. In third place was Kym & Jess Burns.
The Tuohy Family was out in force to celebrate the inaugural event, with three generations of family members at the Club enjoying the relaxed BBQ and presentations that followed the golf. Bob Tuohy helped present the trophy to the winners, and spoke highly of the Club and the way in which it has enhanced its reputation over the last decade or so. He said he was probably more proud of his Club now than he has been in his 50 plus years of membership at Glenelg.
The event, which will now become a regular event on the Club’s match program, will hopefully attract an even greater attendance next year.
