Women’s A2 Pennant & Cleek Stick Results – Round 1

Women’s A2 Pennant
Report by Heather Waddy (Team Manager)

The Women’s A2 team had a great start to the season defeating Tea Tree Gully 4  to 1 at Blackwood Golf Course. Despite a blustery start to the day, the weather became fine and good conditions were experienced.

Sue Taggatt, in her first pennant match for Glenelg, blitzed her opponent 7/6, a performance rivalled by Cathy Johnson who won 6/4. Jayne Staridas and Sue Tuohy fought bravely to take out the tie and Ruth Martin held on to be narrowly beaten on the 18th hole.

Congratulations to all players and thanks to the caddies.  Next week we take on Mt Osmond at the Vines.

Ruth Martin lost to Kathy Torsok 2dn
Sue Tuohy def. Kaye Hamlyn 3/1

Women’s Cleek Stick
Report by Jeanne Scardigno (Team Manager)

On Monday May 7th, Glenelg’s Cleek 1 Team played against The Grange at North Adelaide Golf Club.

It was the finest result to begin a new season, Glenelg winning 4 matches to 1.

All matches were tight all day, never anymore than a two up lead for each pairing, Ros Henderson broke away on the last two holes to win her match 2 up, Barbara Heald and Sandy Dolman were up by one or two for most of the day, and each came home winning 2 up. Janet Fleer was 1 down at one stage but managed to win 3 and 2. Meredith Noble had the toughest battle, each time she looked like breaking free, her opponent would sink an amazing putt, and she was eventually defeated 2 down.

Great first up effort girls, bring on Royal Adelaide at Tea Tree Gully next week.
