Stage 2 of our scheduled bunker refurbishment program will commence next Monday (21st May) with bunkering on holes 6 and 7 to be refurbished.
Work on both holes has again been carfeully considered and designed to ensure changes do not impact on the strategic nature of the golf course, but provides some relief and easier access for members, and importantly, reduced sand area and revetted edging to ensure maintenance practices can continue to be as efficient as possible.
The fairway bunker complex on the RHS of the 6th hole will be redeveloped, removing two of the existing five bunkers, and reducing the combined total sand area in the remaining three bunkers. The three bunkers to be retained will have new revetted edging constructed in the same manner as works currently underway on the 3rd and 4th holes, with the remaining areas retained as grassy and/or sandy rough hollows.
On the 7th hole, the RHS fairway bunker will be converted into two smaller bunkers. This bunker has been subject to significant sand erosion over the years and has caused significant issues in its maintenance. Reverting this bunker into two smaller bunkers will retain the strategic element of the bunker, but considerably reduce wind erosion and maintenance costs in the future. The fairway bunker through the fairway on the left will be halved in size to again retain the strategic nature, but minimise maintenance costs. The area of bunker being removed will be returned to fairway.
The earthworks associated with stage 2 will be completed within two days, and the remaining works will take approximately two weeks to complete. We apologise for the inconvenience, but assure members that we will be working to minimise the disruption to golfers during these works.
Stage 3 works on holes 9, 11 and 17 are scheduled for commencement in July.
