Glenelg vs The Vines
At Blackwood Golf Club

Glenelg 4 defeated The Vines 1

Report by Paul Duregon (Team Manager)

What a pleasant change in weather conditions than what was forecast for players, caddies and spectators. This match has traditionally been a challenge for us, with a very different attitude required than from the previous week.  To the boys credit, their attitudes were excellent.

The Vines had the added bonus of playing Luke Noble, who had played Bonnar Cup in the first two rounds, giving them strength at the top of the order.

Braeden Kelly – First week playing at number 1 and what an outstanding performance winning 2/1.  Breaden shows the character required to perform at this level.  Both boys had a fair share of luck and bad luck in this match and the sportsmanship shown by both players was noted by both managers.

Jake Hurst – What a match of fluctuating fortunes.  Jakes opponent was on top for most of the match, however Jake has this uncanny knack of digging deep at the end.  Jake managed to get it back to square on the 18th tee and hit a booming drive into the greenside bunker (par 4).  But his opponent hit back with a drive to the middle of the fairway, Jake made 4, his opponent 3, thus Jake lost 1 down. Great effort Jake to come back from a slow start.

Todd Williams – In control all day, well played.

Jake Hynes – Back into the team this week with Fran Brown (grandmother) on the bag – what a great combination. Concentration was the key word for Jack this week.  From the very first hole it was clear Jack took the message on board, winning 7/6.  One hiccup – Fran, watch out for the bunkers!  Fran let the electric buggy go straight into the bunker, damaging the wires from the battery, but after some hasty repairs, it was a good as gold.

Haydn Booth – First game for the Club and what a great effort, taking his match 10/8.  To win every hole around Blackwood shows Haydn’s concentration was amazing. This will not be the last you hear of Haydn Booth.

In closing I would like to thank James McDonald for his support with the team this year so far.  James has been passing on his knowledge about pennant golf to all players.  Also David Brand, who gives up his day off to support the team every week.  Thank you to all the parents (and grandparents) also for your support – the boys very much appreciate it.
