It is with much sadness that Golf SA advises of the passing of HC ‘Bay’ McDonald on Monday 26th March.
‘Bay’ had a distinguished career in golf administration.
‘Bay’ joined the Kooyonga Golf Club in October 1951 and served as Captain and President.
He went on to be President of the South Australian Golf Association (SAGA) between 1989 and 1994 and served a term as President of the Australian Golf Union (AGU).
In 1992 ‘Bay’ represented the AGU in Vancouver, Canada at the Eisenhower Cup where the Australian Team of Lucas Parsons, Stephen Collins, David Armstrong and Stephen Leaney finished equal third.
This photo shows ‘Bay’ McDonald presenting current Glenelg Course Architect Neil Crafter, with the 1992 SA Amateur Championship.
‘Bay’ McDonald was made a Life Member of SAGA in June 1994 for ‘…exceptional services to golf in South Australia…’
“Bay’ continued to take an active interest in golf administration and would be one of the first to respond to an invitation by Golf SA to various activities and events. He was a delight to sit next to at Dinner where his wide interests and humour provided a topic of conversation.
HC ‘Bay’ McDonald will be missed by his many friends in golf and the game of golf.
