Glenelg’s Lachlan Booth, Matilda Wheare and Jacqueline Walter all starred in SA’s recent victory against Victoria in the annual Boy’s Border Challenge and Girl’s Cudmore Cheney Challenge.
Played at the picturesque Warrnambool Golf Club, the SA girls side stunned Victoria with a 6 – 3 victory in the Cudmore Cheney Challenge, with the combined Boy’s Metro and Country sides hanging on for a 20.5 – 15.5 victory on the back of a dominant performance by SA Country.
In the Cudmore Cheney Challenge it was Victoria who held an early advantage after the Foursomes Matchplay, winning two games to one.
The SA pairing of Cassidy Evreniadis and Matilda Wheare were impressive in winning their contest 4&3.
The singles matches proved decisive however, with SA winning five of the six contest courtesy of hard fought victories to Evreniadis, Wheare, Caillin Lakin, Ella Adams and Jacqueline Walters.
In the Boy’s 54-hole event, SA Metro struggled against an experienced Victorian outfit, going down 11.5 – 6 overall.
For Metro, Lachlan Booth and Jacin Cook were the standout performers, each winning two out of their three contests.
Booth took the honours for lowest round of the week when carding a 75 in round one.
It was a different story for the SA Country however, who again underlined the wealth of talent on display with a resounding 14 – 4 overall victory.
Ben Tucker, Joel Durnford and Peter Johns were triumphant in all three of their respective matches.
Tucker carded the lowest round of the week with an impressive 73 in round two.
