Lachlan Booth has started the Golf SA Junior Open season in great form, finishing runner up in today’s event at Grange Golf Club. However, it was Royal Adelaide’s Ben Stowe and The Grange’s Kristalle Blum who won the summer’s opening Junior Open event.
Stowe, wearing his customary ‘lucky’ pink shorts, continued his fine form in recent Golf SA Junior Opens, having won the corresponding events at The Grange and Kooyonga last summer.
Stowe recorded rounds of 72 and 71 (143) to take the title by three shots from overnight leader Lachlan Booth (Glenelg) who carded rounds of 71 and 75, with local Grange member Jack Williams a further shot back in third position following rounds of 76 and 71.
Sam Raschella was the next best placed Glenelg junior, firing rounds of 75, 84, 159 to finish in 11th place. Braeden Kelly was two shots further back with rounds of 79, 82, 161.
Blum, who represented SA at this year’s Junior Interstate Series, and now will be representing the state at the upcoming Tasmanian Junior Masters in January, showed some decisive early summer form in completing a nine-shot victory. Recording rounds of 79 and 76 for a two round total of 155, Blum held off Mt Osmond’s Rachel Taylor who recorded back to back rounds of 82 (164), and Kooyonga’s Siyin Zhou who carded rounds of 82 and 84 (166).
Elysia Yap was the best performed Glenelg girl with rounds of 90, 80, 170 to finish 4th, six shots ahead of Christine Beasley with rounds of 85, 91, 176.
